As climate change has been argued about for years and is finally being taken seriously by many, we are starting to see actual changes occur in the surrounding environment.
On August 29th, 2021, Hurricane Ida made landfall on Louisiana nearing a Category 5 hurricane. Meteorologists have stated that the warmer waters of the Gulf of Mexico amplified the pressure of the hurricane, rapidly turning it from a Category 2 into the near Category 5.
California is on fire, the never-ending drought causing wildfires that blanket surrounding states in smoke. Here in Colorado, you can smell the smoke and the mountains only a few miles away are no longer visible. People with allergies and asthma are getting incapacitated by the inability to breathe as the air quality is at dangerous levels according to the Air Quality Index (AQI). Recently, Denver, CO claimed the number one spot for the worst air quality in the world due to the smoke.
On another note, the Colorado River is drying up at its lowest levels in history. 40 million people depend on the water from this river as the water slowly dissipates to nothing.
These are just a few basic examples of climate change that are occurring now, what else is happening that people should be aware of?
